Best Ways To Boost Your Immune System

Your immune system's main function is to fight off any infectious invaders in the body. Today people's immune systems are not what they used to be because of many factors in modern day society (EMFs, seed oils, air/water pollution, heavy metals, processed & sugar filled diets, plastics, etc.). People have started to try find new and more natural ways of boosting the immune system since recent events of 2020. Here are a few ways that can help you support your immune system.

  1. Reduce your stress: Stress can negatively impact your immune system and make you more prone to infections. Stress can also affect overall gut function, which also indirectly impacts your immune system. 70% of our immune system is regulated in the gut, so it is important to keep that in tip top shape.

  2. Cut back on the sugar: Sugar can cause changes in the gut microbiome which decreases overall immune system strength. This is why people tend to get sick more around the holidays as we are enjoying more foods that are highly processed and higher in sugar. Our diet greatly impacts the bacteria in our gut. What we eat matters so it is important to put good in so we can feel good.

  3. Get enough sleep: Our body does the most healing while we sleep, so it is important to get in our 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Ways we can make sure to get good quality sleep is by sleeping in a cool dark room, reducing blue light exposure before bed, practice relaxing habits before bed, and getting to bed at a decent time.

  4. Exercise regularly: Exercise helps to reduce stress hormones in the body, releases pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the body to fight off infections, and improves overall circulation.

  5. Follow a whole-food based diet: Follow a whole-food based diet that eliminates processed foods/drinks and sugar will help you go a long way. Increases intake of healthy vegetables, fruits, protein, and fats will improve overall gut health and boost your immune system. Improving gut health will allow your body to absorb the nutrients you are taking in from diet and supplements.

  6. Take immune supporting supplements: While supplements cannot cancel out having a poor diet and living an unhealthy lifestyle, you can use them to help get necessary nutrients to boost immune function that you may not be getting from diet alone. Some of the best immune boosting nutrients I recommend are Vitamin C, Glutathione, Vitamin A, D, E & K, Quercitin, Zinc, and Adaptogenic Herbs such as Garlic, Elderberry, Astragalus, Camu, Golden Thread, and Olive Leaf. I recommend talking to a healthcare professional about which supplements might be right for you.

Making improvements of any of these listed above can help to boost your immune system in a simple but effective way. If you are suffering from any illnesses and can't get to the root cause I suggest seeking out a funcitonal medicine practitioner to help.
